Sacramento-area gas prices edged downward for an eighth consecutive week, and energy analysts are hopeful of further declines now that summer car travel season in the rearview mirror.
National price tracker GasBuddy.com, which surveys more than 700 regional gas outlets daily, said the average retail price of gas in the Sacramento region fell another 2.2 cents over the past week to $3.76 a gallon.
The current price is 10.3 cents lower than one month ago, but 8.4 cents higher than this time last year.
Nationally, the average price of gas rose less than a penny over the past week to $3.43 a gallon, down 7.1 cents from a month ago and 16.1 cents lower than the year-ago level.
Falling demand and an impending change back to cheaper winter (gas blends) will begin to weigh on current gasoline prices in the next few weeks...By mid-September, much of the nation should see gasoline prices falling once again, said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, in a statement.
