Retreat offers coping skills for family caregivers

Sponsored by Elder Care Management of Northern California, a one-day retreat for family caregivers of people with dementia and chronic illnesses is scheduled for Sept. 13.

The program includes sessions on planning strategies, tips for finding help, tools for recognizing grief and ways to find respite.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Friendship Center at the Town and Country Lutheran Church, 4049 Marconi Ave. in Sacramento, and it costs $25 per person, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

For reservations, call the Alzheimer’s Association at (916) 930-9080. Free in-home respite care is available for the event through the Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center at (916) 728-9333, if arrangements are made by Friday.
