Investigation launched after body found in burned vehicle in Butte County

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is investigating a suspicious death after a body was found in a burned vehicle near Mountain House on Wednesday night.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report at 7:12 p.m. of a car on fire on the Oroville-Quincy Highway, two miles east of Mountain House. The call was transferred to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

When fire units arrived, they reported that an individual was dead inside the burned vehicle, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies and sheriff’s detectives responded to the scene.

Sheriff’s officials said the deceased individual has not been identified.
