Hunter safety class slated

The Rio Linda-Elverta Recreation and Park District will offer a hunter's safety course from 5 to 10 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rio Linda- Elverta Community Center, 810 Oak Lane, Rio Linda.

The class, which covers the rules and regulations of hunting, costs $15. Participants must attend both days of classes. For more information, call (916) 991-5929.

Fundraiser planned

Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue has scheduled its "Kibbles & Bids" fundraising event from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Riverwood estate, 4435 Garden Highway.

The event will feature gourmet food, live and silent auctions, wine and beer tasting, drawings and door prizes. Tickets are $65 and may be purchased by calling (916) 655-1410.

Homebuyer orientation set

Sacramento Habitat for Humanity has scheduled a homebuyer orientation for low-income families from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Park Community Center, 3425 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Families must fall within the guidelines for having low or very low incomes and must demonstrate a need such as living in overcrowded or substandard housing.

Other requirements include contributing 500 hours of sweat equity to build the house, being residents of Sacramento County, having a stable work history and the ability to repay a zero-interest mortgage loan.

Family festival coming up

The Bobbie Wortell Education Fund plans a family festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at William Land Park, Sutterville Road and South Land Park Drive.

The event, which benefits the Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' youth education program, will feature bounce houses, face painting, drawings and adoptable animals.

Donations packages are available from $5 to $25.

Chinatown Mall in spotlight

The Chinatown Mall Culture Fair is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 in Chinatown Mall, between Third and Fifth streets and I and J streets.

Admission is free, and activities include multilingual booths, entertainment, Asian food and beverages and special performances.

Guest speaker announced

Mary Gillon, regional director for the Alzheimer's Association, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the National Active Retired Federal Employees Association, Town & Country Chapter 1674.

The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 at Plaza Hof Brau, 2500 Watt Ave., followed by lunch at noon.

Antiques fair planned

The Sacramento Antique Faire will celebrate its fifth anniversary from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14 on 21st Street between X and W streets.

Neighborhood bike ride

The Oak Park Neighborhood Association and the Sierra Curtis Neighborhood Association have teamed up to organize "Bicycle 'Hood Hop" at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13.

Participants will ride from the Sierra 2 Center, 2791 24th St., Curtis Park, to McClatchy Park, 3500 Fifth Ave., Oak Park, to demonstrate support for a farmers market in McClatchy Park.

Music will be provided by Fushang and the Chocolate Jalapenos. Mass Appeal and Synergy Chief will furnish lunch for the first 100 participants. To register, call (916) 416-0206.
