League receives grant

The Assistance League of Greater Placer has received a $6,000 grant from the Placer Community Foundation to provide new clothes and supplies for students in need.

The league's Operation School Bell program provides age-appropriate clothing, backpacks, school supplies, shoes and personal grooming kits to children referred by school personnel and social service organizations.

The money to fund the program consists of a $5,000 grant made by an anonymous donor and a $1,000 grant from the Constantino Family Fund.

Christian college fair set

Representatives from more than 30 regional and national Christian colleges and universities will be on hand at the annual National Christian College Fair on Sept. 16.

Students, parents, pastors and school counselors are encouraged to learn what distinguishes a Christian college from other institutions of higher learning. Attendees will have the opportunity to view displays, gather planning materials and meet with admission representatives, according to a news release.

The free event – sponsored by William Jessup University in Rocklin and Bayside Church in Granite Bay – will be held at Bayside Church, 8191 Sierra College Blvd.

Blue Jean Ball coming up

The Riding High Equestrian Program has scheduled its annual Blue Jean Ball from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at 11685 Lorenson Road, Auburn.

Tickets are $50 and include hors d'oeuvres, a family-style dinner, no-host bar, music by the Revolving Doors, dancing, live and silent auctions and horse demonstrations.

Corporate games to start

The South Placer Corporate Games for businesses in Roseville, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Rocklin and surrounding areas will take place starting in early September.

The games will feature competitions in categories such as Family Feud, miniature golf, bowling, Iron Chef and Texas Hold 'em.

The event is presented by FirstStep Sports Marketing and sponsored by the Roseville Connection and the city of Roseville. Proceeds will benefit the Placer County Chaplaincy.

Docent training to begin

The Placer Nature Center has scheduled docent training from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 8 to 24.

Docents are volunteers who learn how to teach natural history and cultural science programs to schoolchildren who visit the center, at 3700 Christian Valley Road, Auburn.

De Young trip planned

Roseville Arts has scheduled a bus trip to the De Young Museum in San Francisco to view the Dale Chihuly exhibition Sept. 20.

The trip, set from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., costs $59 for Roseville Arts members and $65 for nonmembers. An audio tour is included. For more information or to sign up, call (916) 783-4117. The registration deadline is Friday.

Casino excursion set

The Stanford Court Apartments clubhouse has planned a trip to Jackson Rancheria on Sept. 24 to raise funds for clubhouse activities.

The trip leaves the apartment complex at 3220 Santa Fe Way, Rocklin, at 8 a.m. Tickets are $30 and include $10 cash and a $2 food credit.

Lodi wine trip offered

Roseville Parks and Recreation has scheduled a bus trip to the Lodi Wine and Visitor Center from 10:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Oct. 4.

The trip, which includes a lunch featuring Italian cuisine, costs $79 for Roseville residents and $85 for nonresidents. Participants must be at least 21.

Reservations must be made by Monday by calling the Maidu Community Center at (916) 774-5950.

Chili cook-off is Sunday

The Roseville Family Moose Center and Roseville Historical District invite the public to a Chili Cook-off for a good cause.

The chili-tasting, music and festivities will be from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Old Town Roseville.

Proceeds benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Sacramento.
