Placer County supervisors are expected Tuesday to approve an annual budget that reflects both growth and a tough economy.
The proposed $865 million budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year represents a 9 percent increase over the previous year's spending plan. But the new budget also leaves unfilled more than 200 of 2,845 employee positions.
About $325 million, or 37.5 percent, of the money is designated for capital outlay projects and road infrastructure, county spokeswoman Anita Yoder said. The funding had been set aside previously and cannot be used for general purposes, she said.
Among capital projects to be funded are a jail at the new Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville, libraries in Rocklin, Colfax and Foresthill and planning for a new justice center in North Lake Tahoe.
The other 62.5 percent of the budget, or $540 million, will be used for county operations, including salaries for personnel, Yoder said. To save money, Placer will fill only jobs deemed the most essential, she said.
Placer, which depends on some state funds for its programs, won't know about further impacts to its budget until the state completes its budget, she said.
