Turning point: Marissa Mar made Saturday's rematch of last season's championship game a classic. The Troubadours' sophomore guard banked in the winning shot from two feet beyond the NBA three-point line as time expired. Mar, who made just 2 of 12 shots, helped St. Francis overcome a 13-point third-quarter deficit and claim its second consecutive section title and seventh overall.
Highlights: Senior guard Ariel Gregersen scored 17 points for St. Francis, and Dominique Blanchette had 13. Troubadours junior guard Diana Leon made one of two free throws to tie it 53-53 with 13.4 seconds to play. Seconds later, junior guard Melissa Flores set up Mar's winning shot, tying up the Trojans' Morgan McCormick on a loose ball. The official signaled jump ball, and the possession arrow favored the Troubadours with nine seconds left.
Sara James scored 21 points, and Jillian Spink had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Trojans. Mar, however, was the game's star. "My shots were not going in at all the majority of the game," she said. "So I was hoping at least one went in. I saw I had two seconds left on the clock. So I let it go."
What's next: St. Francis hosts a Northern California Regional playoff game Tuesday. Oak Ridge plays an opponent on the road. Seedings will be announced today.
