WOODLAND A Yolo Superior Court judge ruled Thursday that he will allow cameras in the courtroom for today's continued arraignment of Marco Antonio Topete.
Topete is accused of gunning down sheriff's Deputy Jose Antonio Diaz, 37, in Dunnigan on June 15 following a chase.
Judge David Rosenberg also ruled Topete, 35, of Arbuckle will appear in civilian clothes and be unshackled for all pretrial hearings to avoid undue prejudice among potential jurors.
The hearing was the first time Topete has appeared in an open hearing before the public, media and his family. He was dressed in orange jail clothes and wore a black bulletproof vest. He has not entered a plea to the capital murder charge.
Topete's wife, mother and sister left the courthouse without comment.
Last week, deputies locked the front doors of a court building for Topete's initial court appearance. Only law enforcement officers and the victim's family, who were let in through side entrances, witnessed that hearing.
