SACRAMENTO State highway officials plan to close westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Colfax for 12 hours Tuesday and are sending out an early warning to motorists and truckers about detours and expected delays.
The closure 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. will allow maintenance and repair of the highway between Secret Town Road and Colfax.
Westbound truck traffic will be diverted onto Highway 20 at exit 161 through Grass Valley, onto Highway 49, reconnecting with I-80 at Bell Road in Auburn. Officials estimate the detour will add 40 minutes to truck travel times.
Cars will be detoured at the Secret Town exit, west on Rollins Lake Road, then back to I-80 in Colfax. The six-mile detour will add about 10 minutes of travel time, Caltrans officials said.
The California Highway Patrol will direct traffic.
