CHICAGO -- The Oakland Athletics placed reliever Keith Foulke on the 15-day disabled list Friday with inflammation in his right shoulder.
Oakland recalled left-hander Jerry Blevins from Triple-A Sacramento to take Foulke's roster spot. Blevins, who is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA in six major league appearances, was 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA and 10 saves for the River Cats.
Foulke, who is 0-3 with a 3.81 ERA in 26 appearances, had experienced some irritation in his pitching shoulder the last few weeks and told manager Bob Geren on Thursday that he couldn't throw.
"It acted up yesterday after his last outing," Geren said.
"It bothered him a couple weeks ago for a few days and then he came back and threw well. Then the second time out it started bothering him again. With the All-Star break coming up, let's get it right."
