This will be something new for Monarchs coach and general manager John Whisenant. After six consecutive seasons in the playoffs, Sacramento (12-22) finished with the worst record in the WNBA in 2009. The Monarchs have a 42 percent chance of landing the top pick in the 2010 WNBA draft when the lottery is held today in New York.
Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro had surgery to repair a ligament in her right thumb. Her recovery time is expected to be three to four months. She was hurt June 7 at Seattle but missed only four games this year.

The WNBA is currently involved in talks to move the Sacramento Monarchs franchise to the Bay Area.
