Roseville sprint car driver Sean Becker has been “Mr. Consistency” in this season’s Civil War Sprint Car and King of the West series.

It had been more than 15 years since the iconic No. 43 drove to Victory Lane.

The day race at Daytona International Speedway ended up at night.

Racing down low in what’s called “blue dirt” – where it’s slick – is where most speedway motorcycle riders like to compete. The low line also is the shortest on the eighth-mile Fast Fridays track at Auburn’s Gold Country Fairgrounds.

Ah, youth. They rarely slow down. Full of confidence, they charge hard into challenges, ready – they think – for whatever comes around each bend. They only envision success, not hitting a tire wall. But today’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 can be a painful lesson in patience and persistence. It’s a potential crash test few rookies pass.
