Sacramento Bee 2006 Travel Photo Contest

1. General Rules:

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Contest void where prohibited. Contest open to California residents 18 years of age or older. All entries must be received by midnight on October 17, 2006. Not open to employees and immediate families of The Sacramento Bee, or its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, owners, employees and agents. The winning prizes are non-transferable to any other person, including relatives or friends. Winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes and any expenses associated with the contest, unless otherwise indicated.

By entering, contestants agree to follow the Official Rules and hold harmless and indemnify The Sacramento Bee, and its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents against any and all liability, damages or causes of action (however named or described), with respect to or arising out of either entrant's participation; or the receipt or use of the prizes awarded in the promotion.

Anticipated number of contestants is unknown as it is dependent on the number of entries received.

2. Submission Requirements:

The categories are: West Coast States and The World. Each contestant may enter one photo in each of the two categories. All photos must have been taken by the contestant in 2005 or 2006 calendar year and have travel as a theme.

Only digital photo submissions will be accepted. Color and black and white photos are eligible. Cropping and computer color correction are allowed, but images manipulated to create double exposures, photomontages and other adjustments are not eligible. Winners will be asked to produce high-resolution digital files, a minimum size of 5mg or original negatives, for publication purposes.

Submit your photos at www.sacbee.com/travel. All submissions fields must be completed, including name, mailing address, city of residence, telephone number, photo category (West Coast States/The World), a brief description of where and when the photo was taken, and email address. All entries become property of the Sacramento Bee. Entered photos and winner's names/photos may be posted on our Web site for one year and printed in The Sacramento Bee on November 5, 2006. All other rights remain with the Contestant. All contestants entering one or more photos hereby promise that he or she took the photo(s) submitted, that he or she owns or has all rights to the photos and that The Sacramento Bees use thereof will not violate any third party intellectual property or other rights.

The Sacramento Bee will not be responsible for incomplete, late, misdirected or illegible entries, or for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind, whether originating with sender or The Sacramento Bee. The Sacramento Bee reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest.

3. Prizes & Winning Entries:

Winning entries will be selected by a panel of Sacramento Bee and other guest photographer judges. Judges will select the winners on the basis of technical quality, composition and general appeal. First, second, third prizes and honorable mention will be awarded in each category.

* First-place winners in each category will receive a $300 cash prize. * Second-place winners in each category will receive a $150 cash prize. * Third-place winners in each category will receive a $50 cash prize.

The Sacramento Bee will publish all first, second and third place winners and may publish photos earning an honorable mention in its November 5, 2006 Travel section.

Prize winners will be notified by telephone, e-mail and/or U.S. mail. Non-compliance with any of the foregoing Official Rules may result in disqualification & awarding of prize to an alternate winner at The Sacramento Bee's sole discretion.

All finalist photos, as selected by the judges, will be posted on sabee.com for public viewing and voting for the People's Choice photo(s). The photo(s) receiving the most votes from the public will be posted along with the above-mentioned winning photos at sacbee.com. No cash prizes will be awarded for the People's Choice photos(s).

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.

You should also know that The Sacramento Bee does not screen comments before they are posted. You are more likely to see inappropriate comments before our staff does, so we ask that you click the "report abuse" button to submit those comments for moderator review. You also may notify us via email at feedback@sacbee.com. Note the headline on which the comment is made and tell us the profile name of the user who made the comment. Remember, comment moderation is subjective. You may find some material objectionable that we won't and vice versa.

If you submit a comment, the user name of your account will appear along with it. Users cannot remove their own comments once they have submitted them, but you may ask our staff to retract one of your comments by sending an email to feedback@sacbee.com.
