The Sacramento State softball team ended its regular season Sunday by completing a doubleheader sweep of host San Diego. The Hornets won the first game 20-3 in five innings, then the second 9-1 in six.
Sac State (32-19, 14-6) won its first Pacific Coast Softball Conference title and will receive an automatic NCAA regional berth. The NCAA selection show will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. next Sunday on ESPNU.
Visiting UC Davis fell to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 4-2 and lost the series two games to one. Senior Ashley Johnson hit a two-run homer for the Aggies (23-34, 8-10 Big West Conference).
UCD won the overall team title in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships at Lake Natoma. The Aggies took gold in the novice four, silver in the second varsity eight and second novice eight, and bronze in the varsity eight and novice eight.
Sac State won the varsity four and finished third in the second varsity eight.
Host UCD (29-16, 9-6 Big West) earned its first series victory over No. 23 Long Beach State by beating the Dirtbags 3-2.
Sac State (20-27, 11-12 Western Athletic Conference) lost to Hawaii 8-7 in Honolulu.
American River College freshman Garrett Richman won the men's 1,650-yard freestyle in the California Community College Swimming and Diving Championships in Mission Viejo.
Pacific redshirt freshman Aljaz Ojstersek of Slovenia placed 45th in the men's 10-kilometer race in the FINA World Open Water Championships in Seville, Spain. The top 10 finishers qualified for the Beijing Olympics.
