Sophomore driver Kelsey Holshouser and former Davis High School standout Heather West each scored three goals to lead Stanford to a 15-8 win over UC Davis in Sunday's third-place game of the NCAA women's water polo championship in Stanford.
"This obviously was not the best game we've played this year," said Aggies coach Jamey Wright. "As difficult as this game was, it doesn't minimize how great the season was for us."
Junior attacker Lindsay Kiyama and senior attacker Casie Mota each had two goals for UCD (27-10).
West had two of her goals in the opening minutes as Stanford exploded to a 5-1 lead.
Nevada scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat visiting Sacramento State 13-12. The big blast was Shaun Kort's walk-off three-run homer off Jeff Roth.
The Hornets are 21-30 overall, 12-15 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Wolf Pack is 31-20 and 17-11.
Tim Wheeler went 3 for 5 with three runs scored, and David Flores had two hits and three RBI for Sac State.
Aaron Wible drove in three runs, the third coming on a walk-off home run, to lead host UC Riverside to a 7-6 victory over UCD.
The Aggies are 30-19 overall and 10-8 in the Big West Conference. The Highlanders are 18-27 and 12-6, keeping their hold on second place in the conference.
Jake Jefferies homered and drove in three runs for UCD. Ty Kelly and Ryan Royster had two hits.
