Steve Wiegand's column appears Thursdays and Saturdays, and he also anchors the Monday "Buzz." His contributions reflect his many years of exposure to the California political scene. Or so he says.
Prior to joining The Bee in 1989, Wiegand was chief political writer for the San Diego Tribune for five years, and political writer and Sacramento bureau chief for the San Francisco Chronicle for eight. He has previously written two different columns for The Bee, as well as covering energy and gambling-and-drugs. He has also produced dozens of special projects, on topics from the California Gold Rush to the Central Valley's methamphetamine epidemic. In mid-2005, Wiegand was recruited by The Bee's parent company, The McClatchy Company, to write a book on the first 150 years of the company's history. He's also the author of "Sacramento Tapestry" and "U.S. History for Dummies," and a contributing author to "Forbidden Knowledge."
