On your mark. Get set. Shop.
That's what people backing The Fountains at Roseville, a new town center-style mall were hoping would happen after the facility's 10 a.m. opening this morning.
The facility is at the intersection of Roseville Parkway and Galleria Boulevard across from the Westfield Galleria at Roseville.
The Fountains features more than 300,000 square feet of retail and recreational opportunities. Developers describe it as a "lifestyle" center, built in the currently popular style that encourages patrons to view it as a destination, not merely a shopping site.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Roseville and Rocklin chambers of commerce representatives and Fountains officials was scheduled for 10 a.m., a news release stated. Business was set to open following the ceremony.
A running of the center's "show fountain" was set for 10:30 a.m.
Potential customers were beginning to show up at the shopping center at about 9 a.m. today, said Heather Atherton, a Fountains spokeswoman.
"People are driving through, checking it out," she said. "Since the stores aren't open, they're not milling around yet. But in another hour, I think it'll get pretty congested."
Atherton said retailers were pleased with a soft opening held Saturday and Sunday.
Fountains retailers include DSW, Chico's, White House/Black Market and Orvis. Some of its retail offerings, such as Anthropologie and Sur La Table, are firsts in the Sacramento region. Restaurants at the center include Boudin Bakery, McCormick and Schmick's and Big Spoon Yogurt among its numerous eatery options.
Some stores open Monday and others, including Whole Foods, are scheduled to open throughout the summer and fall, Atherton said.
Several entries and exits should help thwart potential traffic congestion in the area, Atherton said.
To get to the Fountains from Sacramento, take Interstate 80 East to Highway 65. Exit at Galleria Boulevard/Stanford Ranch Road. Continue to the Galleria Boulevard offramp and head south on Galleria Boulevard. Turn right into the Fountains.
