1. Gay Marriage Ballot Measure VO/SOT

On Wednesday, the California Supreme Court rejected a petition to remove Proposition 8 from the November ballot. The ballot measure would amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage. Opponents of the measure hoped they would persuade the court that the ballot measure will revise, rather than amend the constitution. Constitutional revisions require a two-thirds legislative approval and popular vote. The state constitution can be amended by popular majority vote. Efforting soundbites and video.

2. Climate Change Regulations VO/SOT

Representatives from the New American foundation, a former California EPA Secretary and a Schwarzenegger administration special advisor will discuss proposals for state and federal policies intended to reduce the impacts of alleged human-caused global warming.

3. School Superintendent on Heat Illness VO/SOT

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell will be in a Stockton watermelon field this morning, discussing an outreach effort to inform migrant workers on how to prevent heat illness. Efforting soundbites and video.

3. FBI 100th Birthday VO/SOT

The Sacramento office of the FBI is celebrating the bureau's 100th anniversary this morning. The actual 100th anniversary of the FBI is next Saturday, July 26th. Efforting video of today's event.

President of the United States George W. Bush will be in northern California this afternoon for two press events related to California's wildfires; one in Redding an one in Vacaville. Because of the timing of these events and the distances involved, CTNS will NOT be covering them.

GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be in Redding, CA this afternoon, to discuss California's wildfires with President Bush.
