1. Budget Balance Raid? VO/SOT
A coalition of business and labor groups this morning will discuss their opposition to a rumored proposal to take gasoline tax dollars intended for transportation projects to balance the state's budget deficit. In 2006 voters passed a state ballot measure intended to block such moves. Efforting soundbites and video.
2. Farm Workers Want Water VO/SOT
Reportedly, more than 1,000 farm workers will assemble at the capitol today to lobby and rally in support of efforts to place a water bond on the November ballot. Water shortages are forcing cut backs on the acreage being farmed in California's Central Valley. The bond is supported by both Governor Schwarzenegger and U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein. Efforting soundbites and video.
3. Ballot Measures Posted VO/SOT
This week, the California Secretary of State's office posted the ballot pamphlet that includes the official description of the state ballot measures included on the November ballot. State law requires the pamphlet be posted for 20 days before it is mailed, allowing proponents and opponents the opportunity to legally challenge ballot titles and wording they find to be misleading. Efforting soundbites and video.
--ITEMS BELOW FYI ONLY NO VIDEO--
Insurance Commissioner- Steve Poizner will be at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento this morning, discussing ways consumers can avoid insurance scams involving staged accidents.
GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Sacramento today. He will be joining the farm worker rally and press conference.
LEGISLATURE'S SCHEDULE
The state budget is now 23 days overdue, but there are no legislative sessions scheduled for the Senate or Assembly to resolve the budget stalemate. Legislative leaders may be meeting with or without the Governor later today for budget negotiations. All members of both houses are on call, meaning a session could be convened on 24 hours notice should a budget deal be struck.
