1.State Bond Sales Already Affected VO/SOT

In consideration of the current tightening of the nation's credit markets, the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee will consider extending the date by which state bonds allocated earlier this year must be issued. The State Public Works Board, in a separate meeting, will consider authorizing sale of $136 million in lease revenue bonds for construction of building a new death row facility at San Quentin State Prison. 2. Political Censorship Coming? VO/SOT

The New America Foundation is hosting a discussion by Rick Wartzman, author of a new book regarding the censorship and politics surrounding the publication of John Steinbeck's novel, The Grapes of Wrath. Will the event become relevant soon? Efforting soundbites and video.

3. Motorists Crazy Over Lottery Gas Giveway VO/SOT

The California State lottery will give away $50 worth of gas to the first 200 people in line at a Sacramento area gas station this morning. The location of the station has yet to be disclosed. There is a catch. To receive the free gas, you also have to buy $10 dollars worth of lottery tickets. Efforting soundbites and video.

New Ethanol Plant- Pacific Ethanol is hosting a grand opening this morning of its new 60-million gallon per year ethanol production facility in Stockton. Pacific Ethanol is the largest ethanol producer in the Western United States. Ethanol has been touted as a home-grown alternative fuel, but its use has also been criticized for producing more net greenhouse gas emissions than traditional fossil fuels.

Mondavi Grand Opening - More than 500 people are expected today at the grand opening of the University of California at Davis' Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science.

Climate Adaptation - Resources Agency holds public meeting to update information on climate change. (10 a.)

Health Care - The group Health Access California will release a report detailing what it calls the flaws of Republican presidential candidate John McCain's health insurance proposal.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Los Angeles today. He has no public events scheduled.
