1. Earthquake Drill Prep VO/SOT

The California Earthquake Authority will meet this afternoon to discuss its participation in what's being called the Great Southern California Shakeout, an earthquake response drill planned for Thursday, November 13th. Efforting soundbites and video.

2. Here a Doc, There a Doc... VO/SOT

The chairman of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California San Francisco will be in Sacramento today, to discuss California Medical Board data on the availability of primary and specialty medial care physicians throughout the state. Efforting soundbites and video on the factors that determine how physicians locate, whether changes are recommended, and how they could be achieved.

3. Anti War Boots VO/SOT

The group American Friends Service Committee has placed 440 pairs of combat boots on display at a community college campus in the Sacramento area. The purpose of the exhibit is to memorialize U.S. soldiers who have died in the war in Iraq. Efforting soundbites and video.

4. New Car Sales Drop VO/SOT

The California New car Dealers Association reports registrations of new cars and light duty trucks fell nearly 20 % in the third quarter (J-A-S) this year. Year to date, the decline compared to the same period last year is about 18%. The housing and credit crises are being considered the main factors driving the decline. Efforting soundbites and video on whether the drop in new car sales should be considered a bellwether for overall economic activity.

--ITEMS BELOW FYI ONLY NO VIDEO--

Gas Prices Fall- Gasoline prices have fallen rapidly this week in California, with the average statewide retail price for a gallon of regular gasoline expected to drop below three dollars within days. It is noteworthy that unlike periods of rapidly rising gasoline periods, no elected officials have been coming forward announcing they're launching an investigation of gasoline price fixing, despite the price drops being observed among all gasoline retailers and distributors.

New Tax Commission- Governor Schwarzenegger and Speaker of the Assembly Karen Bass are in Los Angeles this morning to announce formation of a commission to change what they call the state's "outdated revenue system." Critics of the current tax system say tax revenues rise and fall based on the state's overall economic strength, and are seeking a more consistent source of tax monies.

Govs Against Prop 5- Governor Schwarzenegger and the four living former Governors, including current state Attorney General Jerry Brown, will gather in Los Angeles today to rally against Proposition 5, the November ballot measure directing more drug offenders into treatment programs rather than jail or prison.

Lockyer Backs Prop 11- State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, (D-Sacramento) is the only statewide Democratic elected official so far to endorse Proposition 11, the redistricting reform measure on the November ballot. The California Democratic Party opposes the measure.

GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE

Besides the two events listed above, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will hold a press conference in Universal City, and hold a teleconference this afternoon, to rally support for Proposition 11.

LEGISLATURE'S SCHEDULE

The legislature is in recess until December 1st, but the Governor has announced he will call for a special session November 5th. The legislature may not actually convene until days later. A new legislature will be sworn in on December 1st.
