1. Governor on Special Session VO/SOT
Governor Schwarzenegger today will discuss his call for an emergency session of the legislature. The primary goal of the special session is to close the state's growing multi-billion dollar budget gap. The Governor is expected to discuss the latest dollar estimates for the state's budget deficit, and a proposed economic stimulus package. Efforting soundbites and video.
2. Special Session of Legislature VO/SOT
An emergency session of the Legislature is scheduled to begin today, with the Assembly set to meet at 11 a. m. and the Senate at 4 p.m. Governor Schwarzenegger called the session to deal with a multi-billion-dollar gap developing in the current year's budget, housing foreclosures, economic stimulus and the waning unemployment insurance fund. Efforting soundbites and video.
3. Uncounted Ballots VO/SOT
County elections officials statewide are still counting as many as three million absentee and provisional ballots. The overall deadline for counting the ballots is when the county election officials are required to certify their election results, which can take weeks after the actual election. The fate of a number of legislative races, as well as failure or defeat of closely-fought ballot measures could change from election night results depending on the tally of the still uncounted ballots. Efforting soundbites and video.
4. Light Brown Apple Moth Sprays VO/SOT

The report indicates there is a low likelihood of health problems from contact with the compounds. Efforting soundbites and video.

Ballot Measures Try, Try Again- Despite the third consecutive defeat of a teen-abortion parental notification measure at the polls on Tuesday, supporters have already said they will work again to put another such measure on an upcoming ballot. State Senate President Pro Tempore-elect Darrell Steinberg said yesterday w he would push for a legislative ballot measure to overturn Proposition 8, the same-sex marriage ban initiative passed by voters Tuesday. Repeated efforts sometimes pay off. Proposition 11, the redistricting reform measure passed Tuesday after several similar measures had been defeated at the polls.
Gay Marriages Stand- To clarify and re-iterate; yesterday state Attorney General Jerry Brown stated the approximately 17,000 same-sex marriages already performed in California between the Supreme Court decision last summer legalizing gay marriage, and yesterday's determination that Proposition 8 passed, are legal and valid. But Brown also stated that as of yesterday, any new same-sex marriages performed would not be considered legal. Opponents of Proposition 8 announced they will file suit to overturn Proposition 8, arguing the initiative process does not allow for such sweeping constitutional changes as a denial of civil rights, but the state Supreme Court rejected a similar argument used by Prop. 8 opponents when they attempted to have the initiative blocked or removed from the ballot.
Fire Season Ends- State fire officials announced yesterday they have declared an end to the fire season in Nevada, Yuba and Placer Counties, and will start reducing its resources in that region.
