Gov's Poll- U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and eBay CEO Meg Whitman are attracting the most attention within their party's memberships as potential candidates for Governor in 2010, according to a new Field poll. BTW, The poll's survey was taken before last week's election, and more than 2/3 of Republicans have no opinion of Whitman, and neither Whitman nor Feinstein has formally announced they are seeking a gubernatorial nomination.

Devore for Senate-Assemblyman Chuck Devore (R-Irvine) will formally announce today he is seeking the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate, to be the candidate to run against incumbent Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer when her current term expires in 2010. Governor Schwarzenegger has been considered a possible GOP candidate as well, but has not announced any intention to run.

GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Fresno today. He will visit a meeting of the Greater Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce.

LEGISLATURE'S SCHEDULE

Some legislative committee hearings are scheduled this week (see items #2 and #3 above, and the Assembly Budget Committee is scheduled to meet Friday afternoon to discuss proposals to close the state budget deficit. Governor Schwarzenegger called last Thursday for a special legislative session to address the problem, but except for brief, ceremonial sessions in each house the same day, no other sessions have convened. Late last week, Senate President Don Perata said it is extremely unlikely the Senate will convene the final week of November, leaving next week the only opportunity for the current legislature to act to close the budget gap before a new legislative session convenes on December 1st.
