1. Pollsters On Polls VO/SOT

Directors of both the California Field Poll and the Public Policy Institute of California will discuss the recent election results today at the monthly meeting of the Sacramento Press Club.

2. Lawmaker Orientation VO/SOT

Freshman lawmakers recently elected to office are touring the state capitol yesterday and today to become familiar with capitol protocols and procedures. New lawmakers will be sworn in when the new legislature convenes on Monday, December 1st. The new legislature will likely be left with cleaning up an estimated $11.2 billion dollar deficit for the current fiscal year that started July 1st, as well as the so-called structural deficit that the Legislative Analyst's Office has projected will be in excess of $20 billion dollars at the end of Fiscal Year 2009-10 unless the legislature amends the budget with program cuts and/or tax increases.

3. Community College Cuts VO/SOT

The interim Chancellor of California Community Colleges will discuss the impact of proposed cuts to the state's community college system. Because of the cuts, it is likely the state's subsidies for community college student fees will be reduced, and the students would have to pay more for their own education. Efforting soundbites and video.

4. Open Primary Proposal VO/SOT

Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed open primaries as the next step in reforming California's political system. Efforting soundbites and video with a political analyst on the history of open primary efforts, potential impact on state's political system.

--ITEMS BELOW FYI ONLY NO VIDEO--

Putting the Touch on Feds- Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and Governor Schwarzenegger have both recently called for a federal bailout of the state's finances, saying California receives back only about 80 percent of federal tax dollars California sends to the federal government. Those who spout such rhetoric tend to overlook that the federal government has a greater role than "recycling" tax dollars back to the 50 states. It also incurs expenses from its own operations, as well as foreign aid, defense spending, debt service, etc.

EPA Evac Follow Up- New information is now available regarding yesterday's evacuation of the 11th floor of the California EPA building in downtown Sacramento. First reports indicated 12 employees were hospitalized with respiratory difficulties after a Department of Toxic Substances Control employee opened a vial of liquid sent to it from the DTSC lab in Berkeley. Revised reports issued later in the day indicate there was no vial or liquid. Instead, the employees reacted to a sheaf of wet papers that reportedly emitted a foul odor that had been mailed in from the Berkeley lab. All the employees have been released from hospital in good condition.

$73 Million for Prop. 8- Supporters and Opponents of Proposition 8 contributed a total of more than $73 million dollars in efforts to pass and defeat the ballot measure to ban same sex marriage in California. The measure has passed but is being challenged in court. The state Supreme Court has indicated it may decide whether it will hear the challenge, reject it, or send it first to a lower court by the end of this week. Opponents of Proposition 8 have also started an on-line petition as part of their efforts to put another same Sex Marriage initiative on the ballot next week.

Boxer Aide: Child Porn Charges- Jeff Rosato, described as a high level aide to U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer has been charged in federal court with sending and receiving child pornography. Following a hearing yesterday in federal court in Virginia, Rosato was released to home detention. He was fired from Boxer's staff last Friday after her office learned of the charges.

Kamala Harris for AG; Maybe- San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris has indicated she is considering a run for California State Attorney General in 2010. But her candidacy is reportedly contingent on whether incumbent AG Jerry Brown decides he will campaign for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination if U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein also decides to run for Governor.

GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Los Alamitos and Mission Hills today, to oversee the Golden Guardian Exercise, the state's drill to simulate response to a massive earthquake in Southern California.

LEGISLATURE'S SCHEDULE

The legislature is technically is special session, but there are no sessions scheduled in either house today. Legislative leaders are reportedly meeting among themselves to discuss the on-going state budget crisis.
