1. STATE EMPLOYEE SUED FOR SEX HARASSMENT STILL ON JOB VO/SOT

A state employee for the Department of Personnel Administration who was the subject of a 250 thousand dollar sexual harassment claim paid by the Department of General Services while he was employed there will remain on the job. Personnel Administration officials were not aware of the settlement of the case while that employee was at General Services. While he was at General Services, a woman who worked for a private firm that contracted with the state claims he forced her to have sex with him, then conspired with the private firm to have her fired for insubordination. The Department of Personnel Administration had hired outside counsel to review the case and it was determined he would retain the job. Efforting soundbites and video.

2. CHP MOTORCYCLE BUZZ KILLERS? VO/SOT

The California Highway Patrol will release its new motorcycle awareness month video entitled "Thrill or Buzz Kill" at the academy today near Sacramento. State traffic officials will discuss motorcycle safety and conduct a safety demonstration. Efforting soundbites and video.

3. CALIFORNIA POPULATION NUMBERS VO/SOT

The California Department of Finance has released its population estimates for the state, which indicate it grew by nearly a half million people as of January 2008 from January 2007. The study also contains estimates for cities and counties throughout California. The department uses these numbers as does the state controller to determine state funding that is directed to local governments. Efforting soundbites and video.

Public Policy Education Poll The president of the Public Policy Institute of California will discuss it recent survey of Californians attitudes about the state's public schools and school financing.

Californians Can Weigh in on Beer Tax The State Assemblyman who has proposed raising the per gallon tax on beer by one dollar and sixty one cents is now asking the public to suggest what they believe the per gallon tax amount should be. He has not introduced his measure that would increase the beer tax which is now 20 cents in California. He says he wants the public to determine how much the increase should be. His original proposal would have generated two billion dollars which he says would be directed to alcoholism intervention programs and to hospitals and emergency rooms where he says many of the victims of auto crashes and domestic violence are treated.
