1. Funding for Courts VO/SOT

Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata will discuss with reporters this morning proposed bills fund improvements at courthouses in California. Included in the proposals is a 5$ billion lease revenue bond for courthouse maintenance and repairs. Efforting soundbites and video.

2. Black Caucus Agenda VO/SOT

The Chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus and other caucus members will discuss their legislative agenda for the year. Efforting soundbites and video.

3. Gay Youth Rally VO

Lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender students will be at the capitol today to lobby legislators, and to participate in Queer Youth Advocacy Day 2008. The goal of the students is to learn leadership and advocacy skills for promoting changes in their local schools and neighborhoods. Efforting video.

4. Latino Spirit Awards VO/SOT

The Latino Legislative Caucus will present its Latino Spirit Awards to 14 Hispanics who "exemplify the spirit" of the Latino Community. Award recipients will include civil rights lawyer Vilma Martinez, retired teacher Jaime Escalante who taught advanced math to gang members which was highlighted in the movie "Stand and Deliver" and Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Plunkett. Community Colleges State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell will address the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.

GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE

The Assembly convenes at 11 a.m. The Senate checks in. Both houses have various policy and budget committee hearings scheduled.
