1. Delta Task Force/ Peripheral Canal VO/SOT The Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force today concludes its two-day public workshop to collect public comment on its strategic plan to manage and protect the San Joaquin Delta. That delta provides two-thirds of California's supply of fresh water. At a separate discussion today, the Public Policy Institute of California will discuss the results of its study on the benefits of constructing a peripheral canal around the delta. The intent of the canal is to ensure the environmental health of the delta while also delivering water to central and southern California. Voters rejected a peripheral canal state ballot measure in 1982. Efforting soundbites and video.

2. Health Insurance Roundtable VO/SOT The UC-Sacramento Center is hosting a discussion on health care insurance. Panelists for the discussion include representatives from the insurance industry, the California Medical Association, and the California Nurses Association. The nurses' group supports a government run, single-payer health care system which would obviate the need for private insurance companies. Efforting soundbites and video.

3. Property Tax Decision VO/SOT This week, the California Supreme Court ruled that the Santa Clara Open Space Authority in 2001 imposed an illegal form of property tax on residents within its jurisdiction. The decision established a legal precedent narrowing the definition of allowable taxes. Efforting soundbites and video.
