1. Gift Limits for Lawmakers VO/SOT

The Assembly Elections Committee will consider legislation to place a 10 dollar monthly limit on gifts that lobbyists' employers can give to lawmakers and key staff members. Currently, those limits are placed on only the lobbyists themselves so their employers such as big businesses, unions and other special interests can give thousand of dollars in gifts such as sporting event and concert tickets. Some government reform groups contend lawmakers are then more inclined to vote in the manner the special interests want them to rather than in the interest of their constituents and other Californians on certain bills. 2. Air Travel Gift Rules for Lawmakers VO/SOT

The Fair Political Practices Commission will announce proposed new regulations for how elected officials should report the value of air travel. Lawmakers are currently able to report the values of air travel gifts on corporate or private jets based on typical commercial routes such as Sacramento to Los Angeles. The commission says the new rules would reflect larger amounts which take into account the convenience and luxury of the flights which are doubtlessly

3. Denham Fires Back VO/SOT

Senator Jeff Denham (R-Merced) is launching a new advertisement today, following last week's attack ad by recall proponents financed by the Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata and the California Democratic Party, due to their disagreement with Denham's no vote on last year's unbalanced budget.

LEGISLATURE'S SCHEDULE

The Senate and Assembly check in as required to collect per diem. The Assembly had scheduled session, but changed to check in due to hearings postponed on Tuesday because of an air conditioning break down.
