GOVERNOR/DNA COLD CASES VO/SOT Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will deliver the key note address for the DNA Cold Case Summit in Sacramento hosted by the California District Attorney's Association and other law enforcement advocates. They will discuss the state's DNA data base and successes and failures in tracking perpetrators in old homicide cases. Efforting soundbites and video. EMINENT DOMAIN DUEL VO/SOT The Assembly Local Government, Housing and Community Development and the Senate and Assembly Judiciary Committees will convene a joint informational hearing on Propositions 98 and 99, dueling eminent domain reform initiatives for the June 3 primary ballot. Prop 98 seeks to prevent government from taking any private property for another private individual or business and to abolish rent control laws. Prop 99 would not allow the seizures of a private home, but does not offer similar protections for businesses, places of worship or land. Relevant legislative committees must conduct informational hearings on all upcoming ballot initiatives. Props 98 and 99 are the only measures on the upcoming primary ballot. Efforting soundbites and video. PTA PROTESTS & REPUBLICANS PROPOSE VO/SOT Senate and Assembly Republicans will announce an education budget proposal and what they call a series of reforms that they say will protect classroom funding and not raise taxes. They say their plan will uphold Proposition 98 which was passed by voters in 1988 and guarantees a minimum level of funding for public schools. The measure has been suspended in tough budget years, which the governor's proposal (which will be updated next month in the May Revision) calls for and which the state PTA lobbying group plans to protest this morning called "Flunk the Budget" at the Capitol. Efforting soundbites and video. COMPLAINTS FILED AGAINST PERATA VO/SOT Formal criminal complaints against Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata (D-Oakland) for possible violations of campaign law are being filed today by the campaign defending Senator Jeff Denham (D-Merced) from Perata's attempted recall. The complaints are being filed with the Sacramento County District Attorney and the state Attorney General's office and ask for an investigation into a letter sent to a handful of senators' Capitol offices demanding they engage in campaign work and an attempt by Perata's political consulting firm to have a senate staffer translate an anti-Denham message into Spanish. Efforting soundbites and video. NBA STAR/MAYORAL CANDIDATE AT PRESS CLUB VO/SOT Former NBA star and candidate for Capital City mayor Kevin Johnson will be the featured speaker for the Sacramento press club's monthly luncheon. Efforting soundbites and video. BUREAUCRATS HOOP IT UP VO The directors of the Department of Health Care Services and the Department of Social Services will participate in a hula hoop contest to be judged by the Health and Human Services Agency Secretary to highlight the upcoming March of Dimes "March for Babies" event. Efforting video.
