Governor on Fire Prevention VO/SOT

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will conduct a news conference at the State Capitol to make an announcement about the 2008 fire season. Efforting soundbites and video.

Teachers Leave for Greener Pastures VO/SOT

State Superintendent Jack O'Connell and members of the state's largest teachers union will bemoan the fate of laid-off teachers from California who are moving to other states for teaching positions. Efforting soundbites and video.

Migden Crash Lawsuit Filed VO/SOT

The driver who's car was struck in a traffic crash in Solano County by State Senator Carole Migden a year ago May has filed a lawsuit over the incident. Migden was driving her state-issued SUV erratically on Interstate 80 near Richmond in the San Francisco Bay Area. In a widely reported incident, about a half dozen motorists dialed 9-1-1 to report Migden swerving wildly over the freeway before she exited onto Highway 12 near Fairfield. Shortly after that, she struck the other car, injuring a mother and toddler in the vehicle. Efforting soundbites and video.

Peace Officers and Firefighters Memorial VO/SOT

State officials will attend the 32nd annual California Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony this morning at the capitol. The ceremony will recognize the officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty in 2007. The ceremony is organized and paid for by the California Peace Officers Memorial Foundation. Efforting soundbites and video.

Democrats Vow to Continue Recall VO/SOT

Democrats and local union officials in Modesto will announce today that they intend to keep the effort to recall Republican Senator Jeff Denham alive. Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata announced Wednesday he would pull advertisements he bought for promoting the recall, and that he would not spend any more of his campaign dollars on the effort. Perata launched the recall effort to punish Denham for not supporting the current year's budget during negotiations last year. That budget ultimately had to be reopened earlier in 2008 for additional spending cuts or the state would have run out of cash reserves for payments in April. CTNS is not attending the Modesto press conference, but will effort soundbites from Denham's campaign manager in Sacramento.

Salmon Fishing Regulations for Central Valley The Fish and Game Commission will conduct a conference call regarding the decision they make at their meeting today in Monterey regarding the adoption of restrictions on salmon sport fishing in Central Valley Rivers. Scientists speculate the king salmon population has declined by more than 90 percent due to warming ocean conditions that wiped out the fish's food supply, polluted runoff in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and pumping of delta water south. The conference call number is 888-285-4585, participant code: 626149.

GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Sacramento for an announcement about the 2008 fire season and the Peace Officers Memorial at the State Capitol.

LEGISLATURE'S SCHEDULE

The Assembly and the Senate are not in session.
