Here's a tip from Health magazine: Clean your kitchen counters and sink with an antibacterial product after preparing or cleaning food, especially raw fruits and vegetables, which carry lots of potential pathogens like salmonella, E. coli and campylobacter .

Sanitize sponges by running them through the dishwasher's drying cycle.

Clean your sink twice a week with a solution of 1 tablespoon of chlorine bleach and 1 quart of water. Scrub the basin, then pour the solution down the drain.
