Emily Soloman of Sacramento has been named National American Miss California 2008.
She plans to attend the national pageant in Anaheim over Thanksgiving week. She has the opportunity to win $3,000 in cash and a new Ford Mustang convertible.
Soloman grew up as the youngest of six children and enjoyed playing with her siblings and working in her dad's store, Sierra Outfitters.
Since skiing, rollerblading and camping were the main fixtures in Soloman's childhood, she never envisioned herself as a beauty queen.
Soloman is attending California State University, Fullerton, and has a double major in communications and political science.
She holds the position of standards chairwoman in her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, is a member of the Order of Omega Honor Society and is on the publicity committee for the CSU, Fullerton, chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.
"Your focus determines your reality," Soloman said in a press release. "Right now, my focus is representing Sacramento to the best of my ability and bringing home a national title."
Soloman is the daughter of Simon and Regina Soloman of Sacramento.
