Med Center holds workshop

A community workshop to discuss the long-range development of the University of California, Davis, Medical Center, is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the Coloma Community Center, 4623 T St., Sacramento.

Representatives of the medical center will discuss the goals of the plan and the process they will use to gain community input. For more information, call (916) 734-5441.

Author to speak

David Oliver Relin, co- author of "Three Cups of Tea," will speak at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in the Central Library, 828 I St..

The event is sponsored by The Bee Book Club in partnership with the Sacramento Public Library's One Book Sacramento program. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. Limited seating will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Book sales will follow the program. For more information, call (916) 264-2920.

Wooden art on display

"Bring the Lumber – Artists Who Work With Wood" is on display through Oct. 16 in Room 503 of the James Kaneko Gallery at American River College, 4700 College Oak Drive.

Walkers to aid mental health

The Sacramento Walk for Mental Health is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 starting on the south steps of the state Capitol.

The event is free. Any walker who collects at least $100 in pledges will receive a 2008 Walk for Mental Health T-shirt. For more information and online registration, visit the Web site at www.walkformentalhealth.com.

Art appraisals slated

The Crocker Art Museum has scheduled informal appraisal days for Sept. 30, Nov. 4 and Nov. 25 at 216 O St.

The first of these events will provide an opportunity to have Oriental objects and art appraised along with gold, silver, coins and vintage photographs.

The Nov. 4 evaluation will be for California art, artifacts and furniture, prints, art glass, china, pottery and silver. American and European paintings will be appraised at the Nov. 25 event. Informal appraisals are sponsored by the Art Service Group and will be $10 each or $45 for five.

It's time for Oktoberfest

Sacramento Turn Verein will hold its annual Oktoberfest from 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 3 and 5 to 11 p.m. Oct. 4 at 3349 J St., Sacramento.

The event will feature Oktoberfest beer from Munich, German food and dancing to German music. Admission is $10 general, $5 for ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6. For more information, call (916) 442-7360.

Remodeling Fair planned

The Sacramento Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry and Sacramento Habitat for Humanity's ReStore have scheduled a Remodeling Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at 8531 Umbria Ave., Building 5, in Depot Park, off Fruitridge and Florin Perkins roads.

Remodeling professionals will be present to to answer questions, and demonstrations will be geared for all levels of experience.

Walk for autism scheduled

Autism Speaks has scheduled "Walk Now for Autism," a two-mile walk starting at 9 a.m. Sunday at the University of California, Davis, Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders Institute, 2825 50th St.

The event will raise funds for autism research and promote awareness of the disease.

On-site registration will begin at 9 a.m., kickoff ceremonies at 10 a.m. and the walk at 10:30 a.m.
