SACRAMENTO -- Two teachers at schools in Del Paso Heights were named Sacramento County Teachers of the Year in a banquet ceremony Wednesday night.

They are Rob Myers, who teaches fifth and sixth grade at Garden Valley Elementary in Del Paso Heights School District, and Jeanette Providence, who teaches English at Grant Union High School in Grant Joint Union High School District.

Myers has worked at Garden Valley for seven years. He came to teaching after a short career in construction.

Providence teaches in a program at Grant High called "Q School," which is geared toward students who are at risk or in need of extra help.

Myers and Providence were selected from 17 teachers representing the school districts in Sacramento County. They now go on to compete for the title of California Teacher of the Year, which is given to five teachers in the state.
