August weather is nice -- and fairly normal

The relatively pleasant weather embracing the region is, well, pretty normal.

In fact, the perception that August usually is a hot one isn't accurate. Oh, it gets hot enough, but the mild temperatures settling in for at least the next few days are more rule than exception, weather experts say.

High temperatures today will reach 92 degrees and will continue sliding Friday and Saturday, with highs forecast about 90 and 87 degrees, respectively, said Cynthia Palmer, a National Weather Service forecaster.

A tropical low pressure system is moving into the Pacific Northwest, bringing cooler temperatures to the region, she said.

"And we get the added influence of the Delta breeze," Palmer said.

August typically has people bracing for scorching temperatures, but the month in Sacramento isn't so bad. Average high temperature this time of year is 93 degrees, higher numbers held back by the Delta breeze's cooling muscle.

Temperatures typically peak right at the beginning of August, and then "temperatures do start turning down for the month," Palmer said.

"It might be a misperception that we see temperatures go up in August," Palmer said.

The nice weather should stick around through the beginning of next week. Monday's high is expected to reach 92 degrees.

• Do not copy and paste outside material into the comment box.

• Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.

• Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.

You are more likely to see inappropriate comments before our staff does, so we ask that you click the "report abuse" button to submit those comments for moderator review. You also may notify us via email at feedback@sacbee.com. Note the headline on which the comment is made and tell us the profile name of the user who made the comment. Remember, comment moderation is subjective. You may find some material objectionable that we won't and vice versa.

If you submit a comment, the user name of your account will appear along with it. Users cannot remove their own comments once they have submitted them, but you may ask our staff to retract one of your comments by sending an email to feedback@sacbee.com. Again, make sure you note the headline on which the comment is made and tell us your profile name.
