For the first time, the UC Davis has surpassed $200 million in annual philanthropic support.
Nearly $217 million in gifts, pledges and private grants were received by the university last fiscal year. The record-setting amount marks the sixth straight year that support has increased for UC Davis.
Almost half of the amount came in one large grant: $100 million from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, to found a new nursing school in Sacramento.
The $217 million in support for 2007-08 is a 114 percent increase over the previous fiscal year, when giving amounted to $101 million. However, even without the big Moore Foundation grant, giving increased 12 percent.
The more than 44,000 donors included alumni, parents, faculty, corporations, foundations and other organizations.
In addition to the Moore Foundation grant, 18 donors made gifts of $1 million or more, a UC Davis news release stated.
"We are honored and inspired by these donors, who have seen what UC Davis can accomplish through philanthropic support," said Beverly Sandeen, vice chancellor for University Relations.
