Expert Q: Hello, it's me again. I want to thank-you so much for your quick response. It was very informative. I'm the one where my mother passed on 9/08 who was on medi-cal for numerous years. The State Dept is trying to recover $37k. I understand everything yo mentioned. However, my real question is, the State Dept Health Services/Recovery is asking my sister and I (we are the Executors)to fill out a hardship waiver to see if we qualify so we won't have to pay $37k. They are asking my sister and I to try and get a loan and want information about all our assets. My sister is self-employed and worked very hard to keep a savings and her home for retirement. I understand in the intrim they probably can put a lein on the estate. Which is fine with us. My real question can they legally make us pay this bill, have us obtain a loan and/or come after our assets? We are not tied into the mortgage loan and I know we can walk away. But it's the State I'm concerned with and what they're making us do. thank you so much.
