Just Between Friends, a three-day consignment show, continues this evening at the Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J St., and ends Sunday.
As many as 1,400 people are expected to attend the free event today, Saturday and Sunday searching for bargains on "gently used" children's clothing, strollers, cribs and toys.
"Every. Penny. Counts," Sari Pogue, a Sacramento mother of four, said, pausing between words for emphasis as she shopped today. "Especially in this economy, the way it is, this needs to happen much more."
Started in 1997 by Tulsa duo Daven Tackett and Shannon Wilburn, their idea grew from their first living room consignment sales to 65 franchises in 16 states.
Many shoppers were like Jennifer Ramos of Sacramento. The mother of a 4-month-old daughter, Ramos shopped for winter clothes and a stroller, hoping to find lower prices than the department stores offer. This is Just Between Friends' fifth year in Sacramento and Ramos' third sale.
"We save and save and we come here and spend," she said. "It's expensive now days. You can only go so many places without running out of gas, and baby stuff's extremely expensive."
The Just Between Friends sale runs until 7 p.m. today, and is from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
