The Los Angeles, Riverside/San Bernardino and Sacramento metro markets led the nation in commercial bankruptcies among small businesses in September, according to Atlanta-based Equifax Inc.
Equifax said there were 417 commercial bankruptcies filed in the Los Angeles area in September, tops in the nation.
The Riverside/San Bernardino area came in second nationwide with 312 bankruptcies, followed by the Sacramento area with 237.
Nationwide, Equifax said there were 9,361 commercial bankruptcy filings in September, up nearly 27 percent from 7,386 in September 2008.
Equifax said Monday that "California remains the most negatively affected state," with eight metropolitan statistical areas among the top 15 areas in the United States with the most commercial bankruptcy filings in September this year.
