California's first couple will usher another crop of inductees into the state's Hall of Fame tonight. Among the newbies are fitness guru Jack LaLanne, author Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, actress-activist Jane Fonda and actor-Lakers fan Jack Nicholson. They're also showing off 100 or so artifacts in a new gallery. The new exhibits open to the public Tuesday after a VIP shindig today. The Hall is part of the California Museum at 1020 O St.
There won't be much drama when California's 55 Electoral College members meet today in the Assembly chambers to officially cast the state's votes for President-elect Barack Obama. But at least it's action – something noticeably absent from the Assembly or Senate chambers of late.
According to the deficit clock outside Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Capitol office, the state budget shortfall will grow to more than $6.8 billion today, on its way to $14.8 billion by June 30 if the Legislature doesn't act.
