Cop jailed after chase, then fired

A Citrus Heights police officer was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of leading police on a 41-mile high-speed chase and attempting to run over a Folsom police officer with his personal motorcycle, said Michelle Beattie of the Folsom Police Department.

James M. Fraser, 27, had been employed by the Citrus Heights police for eight months, said Citrus Heights Lt. Gina Anderson. Prior to that, he had worked for a law enforcement agency in Southern California, she said.

Fraser was released from Sacramento County jail Saturday on $100,000 bail. Anderson said he had been fired.

"The behavior was outrageous and completely unacceptable," she said.

According to Beattie, Folsom police attempted to stop Fraser at approximately 2:03 a.m Saturday for allegedly speeding on his motorcycle and committing a red-light violation near East Natoma Street and Blue Ravine Road.

He then reportedly led police on a chase that lasted more than a half-hour between Folsom and El Dorado County, exceeding 100 mph.

He lost control twice, Beattie said. The second time, ignoring police orders, he got back on his motorcycle, and drove into officers, she said, colliding with a police vehicle and running over an officer's foot.

Fraser was taken into custody near Lakehills Drive and Salmon Falls Road, in El Dorado County, Beattie said. Treated for minor injuries, he was booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of felony evasion of police and assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer.

Beattie said the involvement of alcohol or drugs has not been excluded, pending lab results.

A man saying he was Fraser's father answered the phone at Fraser's listed Placerville residence and declined comment. A Facebook page belonging to Fraser states he graduated from Ponderosa High in 1999.
