SATURDAY Chicken Festival: The third annual Fair Oaks Chicken Festival starts with an old-time country breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m., sponsored by the Orangevale and Fair Oaks Grange. Cost is $5 per person. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with daylong live entertainment by Mumbo Gumbo, the Blues Farm Band, Lightning Hand, Marshal Wilkerson and Jeff Watson, food and craft vendors, children's activities, a barbecue chicken cook-off and microbrew beer tasting. A pre-festival barbecue will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at Village Park, 4238 Main St., Fair Oaks, and includes live music by the Blues Farm Band. SATURDAY-SUNDAY Folk and blues festival: The second American River Music Festival features performers including Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, the Buccaneers, Steppin' in It, the Refugees, the David Jacobs-Strain Quartet, Joe Craven with Sam Bevin, Ray Bonneville, Keith Greeninger, Jonny Mojo and friends and the Dulcimer Girls. Other activities include workshops, art vendors, rafting, hiking and children's activities. Food will be available for purchase. When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. SUNDAY Antiques fair: The 41st annual Antique Peddlers' Fair features four blocks filled with antiques and collectible merchandise, a food court, live entertainment featuring Proxy, Oscar Reynolds and the Pleasant Valley Boys, antiques evaluations and more. SUNDAY Health fair: Powerhouse Ministries hosts a health fair for Orangevale and Folsom families. The fair features free dental screenings, a food demonstration, children's fingerprinting, a visit by the local fire department, treats by Yogurt Delite, children's activities, a free children's clothing boutique and a free barbecue lunch.
