Old Sacramento’s Gold Rush Days, hosted over the Labor Day weekend since 2000, have been canceled because of the drought, city tourism officials announced Monday.

California water agencies with mandatory water conservation rules in place were far more likely to reduce water conservation, according to data gathered by the state. The numers also show that Northern California cities have done a better job conserving water so far this year than their neighbors in the south.
Sacramento County will reopen a financial fraud unit in January after reports of scams against the elderly have gone up dramatically since Adult Protective Services eliminated the unit several years ago.

Caltrans relinquished the highway on both sides of the bridge to Sacramento and West Sacramento a decade ago, cutting the bridge off from the rest of the state highway system. Its 737-foot span over the Sacramento River is the shortest highway in the state. Caltrans now says it wants to give the vintage 1935 bridge to the two cities.
