PARADISE The Humboldt fire that threatened Paradise and other portions of Butte County was extinguished as of Tuesday evening, and the Whiskey fire in southwest Tehama County was 50 percent contained, according to fire officials.
The Whiskey fire in the Mendocino National Forest is projected to be contained Thursday, officials said.
The number of firefighters on the Humboldt fire, which began June 11, has been reduced to 867 who are fighting flare-ups and hot spots.
Officials reported that 23,344 acres were burned along with 74 residences and eight outbuildings.
The Whiskey fire, which began June 12, has burned 7,783 acres of mainly timberland. Seven residences were threatened but none has been destroyed. One injury heat exhaustion was reported among the 968 personnel battling that fire.
Jennifer Chapman, a public information officer for Nor Cal Interagency Incident Management, said there is no ecological threat posed to the area, although there were initial concerns over stream habitat of steelhead trout.
Chapman said the area is "adapted to fire" and that firefighters are working to reduce the amount of fuel available.
