DOWNIEVILLE A Plumas County man died Saturday in an accidental shooting at a remote campsite in a forested area of Sierra County, Sheriff John I. Evans said.
Edward Allen Pitzer, 50, of Portola was pronounced dead at the camp near Pauley Creek, more than four miles from the closest paved road, Evans said.
Pitzer's brother, who was sharing the campsite, rode a motorcycle into Downieville to report the accident, the sheriff said.
No arrests have been made in the shooting death, which is still under investigation by local officials and the California Department of Justice.
