SACRAMENTO Fire crews responded to a two-alarm blaze late Saturday night in a computer lab at Leonardo da Vinci Middle School in Hollywood Park.
Sacramento Fire Capt. Jim Doucette said crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly but had called for backup because of the potential for greater damage to the school, at 4701 Joaquin Way.
The fire started at the school's exterior, burned into the attic of the computer lab and caused minor damage inside the classroom, Doucette said.
No injuries were reported.
Vince Matranga, sergeant in charge of the Sacramento City Unified School District police, estimated damage to 25 percent to 30 percent of the classroom.
"Fortunately, the fire department got here quickly," he said. "The room is full of comptuers, but we were able to cover them. There may be damage to one or two."
Matranga also said the school's intrusion alarm had not been tripped and no broken windows were found, but that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
