The Angora fire area has been reopened to the public, but hazards still remain, U.S. Forest Service officials warn in a news release.
Visitors are encouraged to use caution within the fire area, to stay on trails and to avoid areas with dead standing or felled trees.
The area was closed for public safety during a hazardous-tree removal project. The closure has been lifted because work has been completed for this year and equipment removed. The project will resume next year when weather allows.
Although identified hazard trees have been removed along heavily used trail corridors, large numbers of standing dead trees and damaged live trees remain and could fall during storms or high winds, officials said.
Also, to reduce erosion, protect soil and encourage regeneration, some dead woody material and logs have been scattered throughout the project area and pose difficult footing.
