Elk Grove Unified School District will host a Night at the River Cats on May 3 as a fundraiser to benefit the school district's athletic programs.

The California Storm, one of the pioneering teams of the Women's Premier Soccer League, is moving to Elk Grove.
The 1.5-mile walk will raise money for equipment and programs to inspire the school's students to lead active lifestyles.
Franklin High School students will collect clothing and household items to benefit the school and Big Brothers Big Sisters from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 in the school parking lot at 6400 Whitelock Parkway in Elk Grove.

A major retail center in Elk Grove has three national chains opening in the next few months, two of them bound to glam up the closets of savvy shoppers, and another one wedging into the specialty grocery segment.
