Eight firefighters from the Cosumnes Community Services District Fire Department left today to help battle wildfires in Shasta County.
With the latest deployment, the department now has 26 firefighters and five of its engines deployed throughout Northern California, said district spokesman Steve Capps.
Hundreds of fires were sparked by lightning strikes over the weekend throughout Northern California.
No return date has been set for the Cosumnes firefighters deployed.
