Women's class offered

Support Works for Women will start a new class from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Elk Grove Teen Center, 8978 Elk Grove Blvd.

The program, sponsored by the Elk Grove Community Assistance Network, is open to women who have low incomes, are victims of domestic violence, are homeless or are otherwise disadvantaged. Participants are taught to be self-reliant through job-readiness training, group support, case management and mentoring. For more information, call (916) 685-8453.

Orientation meeting planned

Moms in Motion, an international women's health and fitness community based on fun, fitness and philanthropy, has scheduled a 5K run-walk team orientation at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Funtastic Play Center, 9882 Waterman Road, Elk Grove.

Members follow a fitness program that culminates in an event to help support My Sister's House for battered Asian and Pacific Islander women and children. For more information, visit www.momsinmotion.com.

Council meeting canceled

The meeting of the Delta Citizens Municipal Advisory Council that had been scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled.

Crafters sought for fair

The Elk Grove High School Music Boosters club is seeking crafters for its holiday boutique and craft fair planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Elk Grove High School, 9800 Elk Grove Florin Road. For more information, call (916) 769-3334.

Comedy night presented

The Cosumnes Community Services District presents "Comedy Under the Stars," a one-night outdoor comedy performance, at 8 p.m. Friday at Laguna Town Hall, 3020 Renwick Ave.

Audience members may take blankets, lawn chairs or picnic dinners. The comedy is intended for an adult audience. Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information, call (916) 405-5300.

Harvest of Hope Gala

The Elk Grove Community Assistance Network will present its Harvest of Hope Gala from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 9165 Peets St., Elk Grove.

The evening will feature live music by Almost Famous, wine, food, dancing, a live auction and drawing. Tickets are $100 per person. For more information, e-mail harvestofhope2008@ hotmail.com.
